Countless food manufacturers began adding trans fat into their products several years ago to lengthen the shelf life of their edible goods for a hefty profitable gain. Nearly all trans fats consumed today are industrially created by partially hydrogenated plant oils, a process that was developed in the early 1900s and first sold for financial gain by Crisco in 1911.
The objective of the procedure called partial hydrogenation, is to add hydrogen atoms to unsaturated fats; making them more saturated. The more saturated fats have a higher melting point and temperature range, consequently it changes it’s composition from solid to liquid. Given that, this process makes them attractive for baking and extends their shelf life. Crackers for example, can stay on the shelf and stay fresh and crispy for years; in part given that they have trans fats in them. These man-made fats are much worse for you than any other natural fat, even the saturated fats found in butter and beef.
As it happens, health specialists give notice and warn the public that trans fats block arteries and contribute to unhealthy weight gain. Scores of studies have established that trans fat boosts the threat of heart disease. They also can be part of the cause to increase the total cholesterol levels and be a factor in a drop of the healthy HDL cholesterol. Trans fat not only increases the total cholesterol levels, they also reduce good cholesterol (HDL), which helps protect against heart disease. High cholesterol is a major risk factor in coronary heart disease, the number 1 killer in women today!
Trans fats create a higher risk of heart disease than saturated fats. Saturated fats were once understood to be the most dreadful kind of fats. The more compact and dense the fats are, the more they obstruct your arteries. Synthetic man-made trans fats do the same thing in our bodies that grease does to clog up the sinks in our kitchens. Ultimately, they can clog our “pipes” that nourish the heart and brain, which can lead to a heart attack or threat of a stroke.
No human body has a need for these "Man-made fats" called Trans Fats
